Welcome to Magdala.
Hey, friend.
Welcome to Magdala--what hopefully, by God’s grace, will become a place of support and community for women struggling with sexual addiction. We’re here to finally have honest conversations about addictions to pornography, masturbation, and other lust or sexuality-based struggles.
I couldn’t be more excited about welcoming you into this space. It’s been a long time coming.
Women, specifically those in the Church, have been wondering when the conversation could actually address them when it comes to these issues. I don’t know about you, but I’ve spent years wondering why at every youth conference or retreat, when they offered men’s sessions they spoke about porn, but women’s sessions they talked about...modesty. And being princesses.
Those things are good and beautiful, don’t get me wrong. But it wasn’t what I needed. And, if you find yourself here, maybe it’s not what you needed either. The fact that the conversation began for men is undeniably good—but women need the freedom that openness brings, too. And not only that—we need resources geared towards women. Our hearts are different from men, so our suffering, recovery, and healing will look different.
We’re here to shed light not only on the fact that these things are problems for women, too--but also to help you heal. It’s hard to speak about, especially for the first time, but we’re gathering a group of women together who know that it gets more and more comfortable each time. We want to hear your story, let you share this cross, and help you carry it. It’s time for the conversation to really start.
Whether you’re bringing porn addiction, masturbation, fantasizing, promiscuity, or anything else, for that matter, to the table--you’re welcome here, friend. These demons try to steal your heart, but the fact you’re here now is a testament that they haven’t won. I know what it is to feel irrevocably broken, dirty, and like your ability to love is destroyed. Maybe you don’t believe it today, but it is my genuine hope that someday you will:
You are good.
You are loved.
You can love.
And by God, you will.
